I seem to see another MLP post on the blue and green and brownish like every week now. What is with that?
Okay, so I finally caved in and watched a few episodes (the 2-part pilot and the next two after that) last night. It's cute, it's pretty good for a children's show and all that, but I am still not getting why adults are SUPER SUPER IN LOVE with it.
Maybe I just get annoyed at having the moral of the story about friendship dropped on my head like an anvil in every episode (though that's required by virtue of it being children's television), and that kind of puts a buzzkill on the SUPER AWESOME that everyone is promising me here, I don't know. I wasn't that into children's television as a kid, I did watch the original MLP/was into it as a kid, but don't remember jack about it now.
I guess what it boils down to is: it seems pretty good for a kids' show, but... why does it have so much adult appeal? Unless you're sitting there wondering what drugs Pinkie Pie is on, which is what I was doing last night.

You have failed to learn the value of friendship.

The animation is pretty much there in the first few episodes, but the show's mood didn't really hit until the second half of the season. Google the youtubes for Bridle Gossip, Swarm of the Century, The Cutie Mark Chronicles, Party of One, A Bird in the Hoof, Stare Master, maybe Sonic Rainboom, Dragonshy and Boast Busters. Those episodes are imo of very consistent quality and far better than the first few. Although it's a shame you didn't get to episode 5, which starts (post-opening credits) with an homage to Pepe le Pew (which is revisited in Party of One). Basically, if you watch a few of that lot and you're not having fun, then it's probably not the show for you

Princess Celestria: hey, you're the one who gave Twilight Sparkle two tickets to the gala when she has five friends! You have failed to learn the value of friendship! Well, I am going on a trip today, I sadly had to stop watching the ponies to do stuff like pack my crap and go to work last night... But it's bookmarked for later when I get back, so we'll see. Thanks for the pointing out of episodes that are more must-watch. It is kind of hard to figure out the whole "the first few episodes aren't living up to the rest of the show" thing, isn't it? Btw, I made a pony-related comment to my friend yesterday and she was all, "What?" Apparently she is too busy posting drama on Facebook to notice that ponies are the new thing. Go figure.

She also imprisoned her sister on the moon for a thousand years. She's kinda crazy, just roll with it.
Look, if watching the show doesn't convert you nothing we can say will. Taste is subjective, some people don't like The Wire others think it is the best show of all time.
